How long are speed dating events
Make sure to practice speaking clearly and to smile often. You could practice in a mirror to see how you appear. Keep it light and positive.
Prepare questions to ask your dates. Have a list of questions in your mind that you can ask your matches. Think about what you are most interested in finding out when assessing a potential partner and then formulate a set of questions that are tailored to getting that information. You may opt to have a sense of humor or to be deep and probing, but the important part is that you stay true to yourself.
Compile a list of traits you find desirable. Remember that you may be nervous for your first speed dating event, so it will help to have an idea of what you are looking for before you get into the process. You should also list traits that are deal-breakers. Take some time to seriously consider what you want in a romantic interest so that you can accurately qualify and disqualify potential matches, even when your nerves might be clouding your thinking. For example, maybe you are looking for someone who is passionate about their job, is adventurous, and wants to have kids some day.
For deal-breakers, perhaps you are unwilling to date a smoker or will only date someone of a specific religion. Be sure to dress appropriately for the venue, and to wear an outfit that speaks for your style and personality. Your clothes should be clean and wrinkle-free. Wear something that makes you feel confident and attractive. When you feel great, it will show. Men can wear a dress shirt and tie and women can wear a nice blouse. This will help you to make a good first impression. Arrive at the venue at least 30 minutes early. This will give you time to register, meet people, and get settled before the speed dating begins.
When you arrive, you will need to sign in and will be given a match card. You might also get a name tag. There should be a host that can walk you through the registration process. The match card is what you will fill out after each speed date. Introduce yourself to as many people in the room as possible. Depending on the event, you may not get to meet everyone. It is a good idea to get started ahead of time and begin introducing yourself so that you meet as many potential matches as possible.

For those who don't, read the next question and answer. We also have special events for people who desire to meet significantly older or younger people. Can I attend anyway?
We want all participants to be comfortable with the interest and age group of attendees they are "dating. What do you mean by "single professionals"? Our speed dating customers tell us they are looking for other singles who are in a trade or business that requires intellect, ethics, and strong character.
This could mean highly educated individuals like doctors or lawyers or it could be subjective to mean people who conduct themselves in a professional manner in their lives and are skilled in their careers, independent of education. Pre-Dating does not discriminate and welcomes all those from various trades and professions. How many people can I expect to meet in a night? Typically 8 to 12 and sometimes as many at It's not too few and not too many. Our minimum participant threshold is 6 men and 6 women for a session but ideally 8 to 12 is what attendees tell us works best.
Any more than 14 and they tell us it's simply too tiring and too hard to remember everyone! What if there are only a few people there? We value your time and if there are a lot of last minute cancellations or a blizzard or whatever, we work very hard to contact everyone with as much advanced notice as possible. For this reason it's important to check your email and voice mail messages on event day just in case something has changed.
We know how critical attendance is to the success of speed dating events and your experience at our events. That's why we have an attendance guarantee. By having minimum turnout standards, you're guaranteed to meet enough people to give you a good chance of getting one or more participants wanting to hear from you again. Our goal is to hold the events we schedule and are very careful about scheduling events to ensure they are successful.
How long does a session take?
How Speed Dating Works
Each session takes about an hour and a half to two hours depending on turnout and whether food is served at the event. How much time do I have to talk to someone? Typically 6 minutes per person but depending upon attendance and other factors you may have 5 minutes or as high as 7 minutes. We'll let you know how much time you have before we start the event. Remember, you're not on a date, you're on a "Pre-Date! Sometimes 6 minutes is way too long, if you know what we mean. But in 6 minutes most people can tell if there's physical chemistry, if they like the way someone speaks, if the person is mature and intelligent, and if they want to know more.
At which point they'd select YES on their Match Sheet that they would like to hear from that person again! What should I talk about? You'll see that once you start the event everything just flows. One tip, think about what you'd want to know before going on a date with the person. Some people ask harmless easy questions like "What hobbies do you have" or "What area of town do you live in" and others ask tough questions like "When is the last time you lied to someone". The possibilities are endless but relax and try not to be too serious, just have fun. Another tip, try to avoid the more mundane questions like "what do you do" and "where are you from" as this can be repetitive.
While obvious, it's surprising how many people make the mistake of talking about an ex, or focuses almost the entire speed-date on themself and what they do, etc. Try to stand out and differentiate yourself from the others in a positive way. Tasteful humor and a light hearted demeanor go a long way. And if you are sitting across from someone you're not attracted to, please remember that they still have a story to tell.
I've attended before, how do you make sure I don't meet the same people?
Good question and a valid concern especially since many people return to participate in our events. After all, it is as they say a "numbers game" and Pre-Dating helps even the odds so to speak. We are the only speed dating company that has been granted a Patent for a process to help ensure that anyone who has attended our events in the past will meet new people every time they attend.
It's unique and we're really excited about how it enhances your event experience. If you are a returning attendee read about our Standby List process. How should I dress for the event?

Shorts and flip-flops might not project the best image however! Seriously, many people come directly from work so you'll see business casual or even a suit or two. If it's a later event session people might be dressed down a bit but you probably won't see any torn blue jeans. You know what to do, be comfortable, look good, and smile! How will my matches contact me? When you arrive at a Pre-Dating event we give you a Match Sheet where you will select throughout the evening who you would like to hear from again. After the event, you will be notified by email when your match results are ready.
Men and women are rotated to meet each other over a series of short "dates" usually lasting from three to eight minutes depending on the organization running the event. At the end of each interval, the organizer rings a bell, clinks a glass, or blows a whistle to signal the participants to move on to the next date. At the end of the event participants submit to the organizers a list of who they would like to provide their contact information to. If there is a match, contact information is forwarded to both parties.
Contact information cannot be traded during the initial meeting, in order to reduce pressure to accept or reject a suitor to his or her face.
ABOUT SPEED DATING EVENTS
Requirement for each event vary with the organizer. Specific age range based on gender is a common restriction for events. Many speed dating events are targeted at particular communities: Some feel that speed dating has some obvious advantages over most other venues for meeting people, such as bars, discotheques , etc. Unlike many bars, a speed dating event will, by necessity, be quiet enough for people to talk comfortably. Participants can come alone without feeling out of place; alternatively it is something that women who like to go out in groups can do together.
Because the matching itself happens after the event, people do not feel pressured to select or reject each other in person. On the other hand, feedback and gratification are delayed as participants must wait a day or two for their results to come in. The time limit ensures that a participant will not be stuck with a boorish match for very long, and prevents participants from monopolizing one another's time. On the other hand, a couple that decides they are incompatible early on will have to sit together for the duration of the round.
Most speed dating events match people at random, and participants will meet different "types" that they might not normally talk to in a club. On the other hand, the random matching precludes the various cues, such as eye contact, that people use in bars to preselect each other before chatting them up. According to the New York Times, participants in speed dating experience an average of 2 in 10 or 3 in 10 matches. Online dating participants, in contrast, only find a compatible match with 1 in or fewer of the profiles they study. While over companies in the US offered speed dating through online registration during the growing of the Internet, between and three large speed dating companies emerged with a national footprint in the US, with events in over 50 US cities: Hurrydate, 8MinuteDating and Pre-Dating.
In the UK, there are two companies that run events in more than twenty cities: Speed Dater and Slow Dating. They were the first to hold Speed Dating Events in Australia in and still operate to this present day. Pre-Dating was acquired by Cupid. Several online dating services offer online speed dating where users meet online for video, audio or text chats.
The advantage of online speed dating is that users can go on dates from home as it can be done from any internet enabled computer. The disadvantage is people do not actually meet one another.
